Why this saffron is worth it

  • Grade-1 mongra: only the deep-crimson stigma tip, no yellow style — maximum colour and aroma per strand
  • GI-tagged and lab-tested against ISO 3632 Category I for crocin (colour), picrocrocin (taste) and safranal (aroma)
  • Hand-picked at dawn in Pampore and dried the same day — traceable to the harvest date on the tin
  • A little goes far: 2–3 strands colour a full pot of kheer, biryani or kahwa

Nutrition

Per 1g: ~3 kcal. Saffron is used in strand quantities; it contributes crocin, picrocrocin and safranal rather than meaningful macronutrients. No additives, colours or preservatives.

Storage

Keep the tin sealed, away from light and moisture, at room temperature. Never refrigerate — condensation dulls aroma. Best within 24 months of harvest; the harvest date is printed on the tin.

Questions, answered

How do I check this saffron is genuine?+
Every tin carries the Kashmir Saffron GI tag and a batch number you can look up for the lab report. At home: steep two strands in warm water — real mongra releases colour slowly over several minutes and the strand stays intact; fake saffron dumps colour instantly and falls apart.
How much saffron should I use in one dish?+
2–3 strands for a cup of kahwa or milk, 8–10 strands for a family-size kheer or biryani. Steep in warm (not boiling) water or milk for 10 minutes first — boiling destroys the aroma.
What is the difference between mongra and lachha?+
Mongra is the trimmed crimson stigma tip — the strongest grade. Lachha keeps the yellow style attached, is gentler and costs less per gram. Both come from the same Pampore fields.
